USSD Student Lauren Smith tells us about her favorite kung-fu animal!

“The Leopard”
By: Lauren Smith (age 8)

There are five animal forms in Shaolin Kempo. They are the Tiger, Dragon, Leopard, Crane and Snake. My favorite is the Leopard. The Leopard represents speed, coordination and footwork. Even though the Leopard is smaller than the Tiger, it is faster and stronger. I like the Leopard because of its speed and strength. I am working on speed in my forms and thinking of the Leopard helps me. I am also working on coordination in my forms, defensive maneuvers and kempo punch techniques. Thinking of how the Leopard represents developing strong tendons and bones helps me too. I also need help with my footwork so I don’t trip over my own feet.

I like the Leopard because of what it represents and also because it is pretty!
