Karate School helps local Boy Scouts reach Eagle Scout

POWAY, California, July 19th, 2008 – United Studios of Self Defense in Poway (USSD Poway) announced today the graduation of thirty Boy Scouts from its Martial Arts Fitness Program. USSD Poway, located at 13541 Poway Road, offers a practical Shaolin Kempo martial arts system that assists men, women and children in improving health, confidence, academic performance, as well as strength and overall fitness.

The Boy Scout Martial Arts Fitness Program is an intensive three month course during which Scouts complete Athletics, Sports and Personal Fitness Merit Badges. Scouts graduate from the program by testing for their Yellow Belts in the USSD Shaolin Kempo System. This course focuses on self defense skills, building muscle, developing healthy habits and maintaining healthy weight. In addition to the physical benefits of Martial Arts training, this program covers various life skills which are essential elements of the Eagle Scout, including goal setting, project planning and leadership.

Brian Colwell, Chief Instructor of the United Studios’ Poway school, is a third generation Eagle Scout and is proud to volunteer his time to the Boy Scouts. “This is a FREE program, I just wanted to find a way to give back to Scouting and to help other Scouts reach Eagle,” says Brian. “The Scouts have been a blast to teach and are really enjoying themselves. In fact, many of them want to keep training!”

Brian works closely with other community groups including the Girl Scouts and hopes to reach many more families through these special community programs.
