American Combatives is based on the teachings of Captains Fairbairn, Sykes and Ret. Col. Rex Applegate. They developed an offensive system of combat that was taught and used by American and English commandos and spies who constantly worked behind enemy lines in WWII. They often had to work alone or in pairs for extended periods with out the support of larger units. Due the short amount of time these operatives had to train and because their lives and the success of their missions depended on it; they had to have a system that was:
1. easy to learn
2. easy to retain
3. simple to execute
American Combatives was founded by John Kary in New York 20 years ago. John, a highly decorated Marine Corps veteran lost his eyesight in Viet Nam due to a landmine. He then over came his disabilities and earned a Bachelors degree in Psychology and high-ranking black belts in martial arts. Once introduced to the teachings of Fairbairn, Sykes and Applegate he embraced their in your face form of combat and founded American Combatives. By staying true to the teachings, he earned the endorsement of Col. Applegate.
Fast-forward to today, American Combatives Inc. is one of the premier Close Quarter Combat organizations in the world. Through the years we have trained DOD Spec Ops, Law Enforcement personnel, Executive Protection Details as well as civilians and Air Crews both here in the United States and abroad in armed and un-armed combat.
